EliteXC: Unfinished Business Discussion

Tonight marks the second primetime offering from EliteXC, “Unfinished Business.” This card is pretty huge by EliteXC’s standards, featuring three titles on the line.
Those of us who have Showtime can double our pleasure tonight, because several of the fights on the card will air on Showtime before the CBS portion of the card airs. If you don’t have Showtime, you won’t be able to see the Heavyweight Championship fight.
The best fight on this card is definately the main event: Scott Smith facing off against Robbie Lawler. Their fight at the first Saturday Night Fights event was off the charts until the controversial ending. I’m hoping for this fight to live up to that one, but MMA is so unpredictable that we might see someone get knocked out early.
Also on the card is Nick Diaz–after the last Showtime event, I’m wondering if EliteXC will go for more cheap heat and have K.J. Noons come into the cage after the fight (if Diaz wins, Denny is no joke).

There was a fight going on…the heavyweight championship…but it was on Showtime. That’s why they had all those promos at the beginning. Antonio Silva won the heavyweight belt.

I think Gina’s in trouble if she has to face that Cyborg woman…she was pretty talented and in REALLY good condition. Carano has not focused enough on her conditioning since she became famous, so facing a person who has the same amount of talent and better conditioning is a recipe for disaster.

Well, I’m watching MMA tonight, I guess. That women’s fight wasn’t too bad. I don’t like all this time between matches, though. That’s one of the things that really bores me about this sport.

jmart- Don’t waste your money on a PS3 now. The only major exclusive (FF13) has jumped to the XBox.
As for games, I’ll say Rock Band 1 & 2
The last match was over really fast! Maybe wrestling has spoiled me, but I expect more than a couple minutes out of a title match.
As for the time in between fights, I’ve seen two fights since I woke up just after 8PM (central). Both were under 5 minutes. It’s been almost an hour and I’m about to see the third fight finally.
With wrestling, we’d be on the third or fourth match, but they’d have all lasted at least 15 minutes or better. If it was indies, they may have gone 45-60 minutes.

A big problem with the time between matches here is because it’s on network TV. They don’t want to go to commercial between rounds, so they double the commercials in between fights. That means they show a few promos, do an interview, then go to commercial, then do the fight promos and intros. That’s why it’s so bad. If you watch UFC on PPV, it moves a lot faster.

Lex- About the time in between matches: I can see what you’re saying. I just don’t want to pay the $50-60 per PPV out here to watch one and find out. They jack them up due to the popularity in OKC, and I don’t know anyone who watches it (ironically).
If anyone wants to lend out a recent event DVD, though, I’ll take a peek at it and see what I think.
