C.B. Dolloway

MMA Weekly had some interesting comments from C.B. Dolloway yesterday regarding his submission loss to Amir Sadollah at the Ultimate Fighter Finale:

“With the tap, I didn’t fully commit to the tap, but I did hit him once,” said the Tempe, Ariz. native. “I guess they ruled that a tap. I thought you had to go on and start tapping out. I did hit him once. Right as I did that, I felt my arm get into a position where I could get out. At that point Herb (Dean) ruled it as a tap out.”

Right. So now we’re talking about the degrees of tapping? This is the most confusing thing I’ve ever heard. And I thought check swings in baseball were hard to judge…

But seriously, C.B. needs to stop making excuses and just admit that he lost. Anyone else with me on wanting Amir v. C.B. III?

This is my first comment on the blog but I just had to react to this idiocy from CB Dolloway. CB, you lost in the same way twice to a better fighter, get over it. You tapped out, end of story.

There is no such thing as a partial tap out in MMA, you either give up or you try to fight out of the submission, you chose the former and you can’t just change your mind after the fight. Unlike referee stoppages, tap outs are an unquestioned stoppage because it represents the fighter giving up so a referee can’t allow the fight to continue if the fighter themselves concedes defeat. What did he expect, Herb Dean to wait for him to tap a dozen times before stopping the fight? There would be a huge scandal if a ref and fighter ignored a tap out and allowed the fight to continue, so to expect this is absurd and just shows what a sore loser CB is.

After this pathetic display from CB, I for one never want to see him in the UFC again, never mind get another rematch with Amir. He is obviously unable to defend an arm bar, is too stupid to learn the rules of MMA before fighting and shows no respect to his opponents. Well done Amir, sorry for doubting you.

    David,

First off, thanks for the comment…hope you’ll keep checking out the blog.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I HATE it when guys try to come up with some ridiculous excuse as to they lost. It’s not as if C.B. lost by a close decision or something–he freaking tapped! That’s why I made the analogy with the check swing. There is no “pulling back from a tap” like baseball players do on a swing. If you go to the motion, you’re done. “Oh, I was about to escape” doesn’t cut it. Plus, he tapped almost immediately, it’s not like he was trying to hold off.

I do disagree on one thing–I still want to see the guy in UFC just to see how he reacts to this loss. And yeah, I’d love to see him fight Amir again and see him lose to Amir again, because I think at this point, it’s pretty obvious that he would.

If he does lose his next fight, I’d probably think about dropping him if I were Dana White.

CB needs to man up and take the loss. I hate when people make excuses. The beauty of MMA is it is final.

If you tap you loose, and if you don’t want to be mistaken make a fist

    Joe–

MMA is final…unless you get one of those weird decisions…
